Masters of Arts »Communication in the Public Sphere​​«

• The Master's in Public Communication is an interdisciplinary program supported by the IfKW's focus on teaching across four departments. These combine research and teaching in communication science with approaches from the fields of sociology, political science, economics, and psychology. In the first semester of the Master's program, each department offers a basic module, from which the students select three. These are Social Communication and Public Sphere, Political Communication and Public Sphere, Economics of Public Communication and Psychology of Public Communication.
• On the other hand, the Master's program offers the possibility to freely choose three modules as interdisciplinary specialisations. In addition to subject matters of the communication studies, subject matters of other disciplines, such as linguistics, text analysis, psychology, political science, sociology, economics, philosophy or theology, are also possible
• The Master's program is also interdisciplinary in access: Applications are open to students with a Bachelor's degree in Communication Science, Sociology, Political Science, Psychology, Economics or related disciplines.

A particular focus of the Master's program in Public Communication is the application of methods and statistical procedures in communication science within the framework of two-semester research projects, from which the Master's thesis can then be developed. Thus, communication science at the FSU Jena offers scientifically sound as well as practice- and labour market-oriented teaching.

Graduates will be qualified for senior positions (eg senior researcher, team leader) in the fields of strategic planning and analysis in the media sector, market and opinion research as well as in the communications departments of organizations, especially in management and public relations. In addition, the successful graduates will be qualified for activities in business and political consulting as well as for further scientific qualification within the scope of doctoral studies.

• A bachelor's degree qualifying for a profession, which includes knowledge of statistics and social science and / or economic and / or psychological methods to the extent of at least 20 ECTS credits,
• an overall average degree of at least “Good” or 2.5
  OR
  on the basis of a preliminary overall grade of at least 2.5 proof of at least 140 ECTS credits at the time of application,
• good command of English (at least B2 level according to the European Framework of Reference for Languages),
• a letter of motivation.
